Edexcel
Information and Communication Technology (4385)
Edexcel GCSE consists of one two-hour examination paper that is taken by both short and full course candidates. The paper is divided into three sections A, B and C. Full course candidates sit all three sections and short course candidates leave the examination room after one hour, completing sections A and B only.
All questions are compulsory. Section A is multiple choice, with questions based upon your ICT knowledge. Section B is based upon a set case study. The compulsory questions require you to complete a selection of design tasks relating to the set problem. In addition, you may be asked questions that relate to aspects of the implementation and testing of a solution to the stated problem. Section C requires general ICT knowledge. You will need to understand all the relevant sections of this revision guide for sections A and C and sections relevant to the case study for section B.
This specification is designed as a two-year course combining elements of both the London Examinations Ordinary level GCE in Computing and Edexcel’s GCSE in Information and Communication Technology. It aims to encourage the exploration and study of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in a variety of contexts: home, community, business, industry, recreation and education. In any given situation students will be given the opportunity to acquire competence, ability and critical skills through the implementation, use and evaluation of a range of ICT systems. Students can develop their interests in, enjoyment of, and critical reflections about ICT as an integral part of modern society.
